Allee + Tyler’s Creative Engagement Session

You might recognize Allee and Tyler from another the blog — they’re the couple you've seen getting engaged at the Atlas A-frame cabin!! For their engagement photos, Allee wanted to get creative and do something different than the typical engagement session, and she'd been loving the art gallery aesthetic. It was SO fun to do something so different than anything I'd ever done before. :)

The feeling all night was like the "cool creative couple" or "it couple" vibes lol. Allee had reached out to me prior to their engagement session expressing how she wanted me to really lean into my more artistic methods for their shoot. I've been working on fun tricks like putting pantyhose over my lens to give a warm/filmy effect, as well as working with intentionally blurry images, and Allee had seen those shots and LOVED them. So I realllllly leaned into that technique for their engagement!

My typical shoot is very outdoorsy and adventurous, so it was so fun to do something so unique and different than what I usually do with my couples— it was almost a more editorial feeling in a way! I love when couples come to me with ideas that are super creative and personal to them — I’m always down for something new. If you’re looking for some inspiration to do a totally out of the box engagement or couples session, look no further.

I’m OBSESSED with the three locations we shot at and how amazing these photos turned out :’) Check it out!

We started at Hoyt Sherman in their gallery room and mansion.

Then we hung out in downtown Des Moines, running around the streets and then spent some time in the lobby of the Surety Hotel and the tavern inside, Mulberry Tavern.

Lastly, we hit up a parking garage downtown for golden hour with the city in the background.

Allee + Tyler are getting married this October at Pinewood just outside of the cities in Minnesota and I could NOT be more excited. Their epic Minnesota A-frame engagement will pair very appropriately with their amazing wedding!
